Toronto – April 1st weekend started off with a friendly outdoor pillow fight among strangers. No, it wasn’t an April Fool’s joke. Who knew that it was International Pillow Fight Day? Obviously the participants of this fun and energetic 12th annual activity were informed. They arrived at Nathan Phillips Square well-equipped and ready to deliver and receive pillow punches in the face and anywhere else the soft obstacles landed as they were randomly and/or precisely swung in all directions. Pillows flew and feathers were strewn all over the ground as evidence of the individual and group challenges that took place.
Toronto and New York are the original cities to host this event which now takes place in over 50 other cities worldwide. Organizers, Bunz and Newmindspace, plan to donate 1,000 pillows to local charities that provide the homeless with the basic necessities such as toothpaste, etc.
Some people even dressed for the occasion sporting a costume, a pair of funky pyjamas or wearing headgear to stand out in the crowd.
Music was supplied by Indie88 who were on hand to give out free high fives and to keep the jovial spirit alive in true Canadian fashion.
Mixed in with the happiness and pure joy was a wedding photo shoot. Coming out of City Hall, the unsuspecting couple got caught up in the euphoria as they celebrated their special day amidst the throngs of pillow-wielding individuals.
After an afternoon of frenzy, action and sore muscles, those who engaged in this non-typical form of exercise were undoubtedly ready to slumber the night away dreaming of next year’s plan of attack – all for a good cause, of course.
