Toronto: A City of Diversity

Toronto, according to urban legend derives its name from the First Nations’ Mohawk word Tkaronto which means “where trees stand in the water”.

Today, Ontario’s capital city on the lake is comprised of a veritable smorgasbord of cultures living and working together.

Canada’s largest metropolis offers locals and tourists alike plenty of entertainment and opportunities to explore, discover and experience something new.

Toronto is home to many well-known attractions/venues such as:

the CN Tower, Skydome (aka Rogers Centre), Ripley’s Aquarium, Air Canada Centre, Ontario Science Centre, Toronto Zoo, Harbourfront Centre, Kensington and St. Lawrence Markets, the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario), Ontario Place, the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition), the Royal Winter Fair, Yonge-Dundas Square, the Toronto Islands, and so much more.

Throughout the year, the city streets of our vibrant neighbourhoods and public spaces come alive with intriguing sights, sounds, and smells as the many ethnic groups that call Toronto home proudly invite us to share in the celebration of their culture, language, art, music, dance and culinary delights.

Are you learning a foreign language and want to practice? Walk the streets of Little Italy, Greektown, Koreatown, Chinatown, or Little India just to mention a few where you can mingle with the locals as you stroll, shop or dine; guaranteed, you will meet multilingual people to converse with.

Come and experience the cultural and linguistic diversity that Toronto and the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) has to offer.
